Her fascination with baking and artistic creations dates all the way back to her childhood. Fiona grew up in an Italian family where she was constantly attached to her mother’s and grandmother’s hips in the kitchen. Learning the family’s baking secrets over the years ignited her passion and she became keen to develop her own culinary and creative skills. After completing a Certificate III in Pastry and Baking and being rewarded with a highest achievement award of her graduating year, Fiona knew that she was destined to put her talent to good use, and thus Something about Cake was born! With flavours like Oozy Caramel and Tangy Citrus on offer, you won’t be able to resist!
Cake Me!
Husband and wife team Khanh and Liz created Cake Me! In 2009. Having had completely different experiences with cooking and baking in the past, they complement each other perfectly and each of them is able to fully express their creative strengths. Khanh’s love of baking began at a very young age and he has fond childhood memories of creating delicious treats for his family, but dyeing everything green since that was the only food colouring in his mother’s pantry! He is a naturally talented baker and believes that food only tastes good when made with love.
On the other hand, Liz admits that she was a terrible baker and only learnt to cook in recent years. Having said that, she has a natural creative flair and it a true perfectionist, so her incredible sugar sculpting and crafting of cakes make her and Khanh the perfect team. Carlie Taylor started her company as a cupcake business, but her path changed direction due to the discovery of her two main passions: cakes and weddings. Having fallen in love with creating wedding cakes, she now specialises in bespoke vintage and rustic wedding cakes which look and taste spectacular! Predominately self-taught, Carlie has spent countless hours researching designs and techniques to bring you the latest in wedding cake design.
Her business began in the kitchen at her family home but soon enough, she outgrew the space and set up a studio. Due to the rapid growth of her company, she had outgrown the studio within a couple of years and so she made the decision to open up a shopfront. She combined her cake business with a very well established florist, and now Vanilla Rose can provide beautiful and delicious cakes, as well as stunning floristry services. Oh, and there is also a lovely café where you can sit and enjoy a cup of coffee whilst you ponder over the flavours, which may take some time when you have options like white chocolate mud, jaffa mud and cherry ripe mud to choose between!
