3 Simple Tips for Choosing a Plus-Size Wedding Dress for a Fuller Figure

We’re so glad that in recent years, women and fashion have acknowledge that thinness is not the only standard of beauty. Thanks to ladies like Ashley Graham, Denise Bidot, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, and Tess Holliday, beauty standards are finally starting to incorporate models that reflect the way women around the world really look.

Though the bridal industry is still dominated with ethereal, waif-like models parading down the catwalk, there are designers who recognize that the world is a much bigger place. Designers like Alfred Angelo, Allure BridalsMori LeeRoz la Kelin, Sydney´s Closet, and IGIGI are the best brands to explore for real girls with real girl curves.

Though the world of fashion is changing, it can still be hard for full-figured brides to feel that the wedding dress of their dreams is out there – but it is! With helpful sources like Pretty Pear Bride and Offbeat Bride’s Plus Size page.

It’s tough choosing the perfect wedding dress no matter what size and shape you are. There are some general rules that you can follow, but remember above all else that what matters most is how you feel. Don’t let any of these suggestions restrict you, rather, look at it as a possible guideline you are absolutely free to throw to the wind.

1. Silhouette

Empire Waist, A-line Skirt: This flattering silhouette is great for many brides, and hence a classic. This cut is great for brides who want to emphasize their breasts and waist.

Dropped Waist, Mermaid: this sexy silhouette is perfect for brides who want to emphasize their hips and booty and it molds the body into a naturally curvy shape – this is also great for thin brides who want to add more curves to their look.

 2. Fabrics

The key is knowing which fabrics work best for which silhouettes – though, as a rule, you never really want fabrics that are too clingy. For the looks above, more rigid fabrics such as jacquard, are great to hold the shape of an A-line skirt or the body of a mermaid silhouette.

Equally beautiful are softer fabrics like the classic tulle, satin and silk. These fabrics lend a “lighter-than-air” touch to your bridal look and are perfect for a breezy Summer wedding.

3. Flaunting Your Assets

You know what they are, so don’t be afraid to show them off! Whether it’s your face, your breasts, your hips and booty, or your feet, or ankles, or something else all together, there’s a dress out there for you. It just takes knowing what you want, and spending the sometimes back-breaking, sometimes disheartening loads of time to find it.

Don’t Feel Like You Have to Lose Weight

Lastly, don’t ever feel pressured to lose weight – if you want to, however, that’s entirely okay, too. If you’re looking for a more hourglass-like figure, check out corseted wedding gowns, or, as we mentioned earlier, try the mermaid silhouette. These will help enhance your curves just the right way!

We hope this was helpful and remember, this is by no means a strict guide. What’s important is that you feel beautiful.
